  1. Rs. 1278 is divided among 6 men, 5 women and 3 boys. The ratio of share of a man, a woman and a boy is 8: 11: 13. What is the share of a man?
    A) Rs85
    B) Rs72
    C) Rs90
    D) Rs110
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:

    Ratio 8:11:13
    No of men, women and boys are 6, 5, 3
    Then ratio of men, women and boys 6*8 : 5*11 : 13*3
    =48:55:39
    Men part is= (48/142)* 1278 = 432
    Then 1 man part= 432/6 =72
  2. A child has 3 different kinds of chocolates costing Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10. He spends a total Rs. 140 on the chocolates. How many chocolate minimum and maximum we can buy with one condition we must buy from all varieties?
    A) 19, 63
    B) 20, 60
    C) 22, 62
    D) 17, 56
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option A
    Solution:

    To buy maximum chocolates we must buy Rs 2 choclate more.
    10*1=10
    5*2=10(we can’t buy one chocolate from Rs 5 because we have amount in even no )
    2*60=120
    Total chocolate (1+2+60)=63.
    To buy minimum chocolates we must buy Rs 10 choclate more.
    2*5=10
    5*2=10(we can’t buy one chocolate from Rs 5 because we have amount in even no )
    10*12=120
    Total chocolate (5+2+12)=19.
  3. There are two container of equal capacity . The ratio of milk to water in 1st can 5:3 and in 2nd can is 4:3. If they are mixed up, what is the new ratio?
    A) 45:67
    B) 55:68
    C) 67:45
    D) 37:45
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:

    Two can has equal capacity. So we consider 10litre in each can.
    1st can (5+3) 8 10
    Milk 5 ===> 25/4L
    Water 3 ===>15/4L
    2nd can (4+3) 7 10
    Milk 4 ===> 40/7L
    Water 3 ===>30/7L
    Then New ratio
    M+M 25/4 +40/7 : W+W 15/4+30/7
    335/28: 225/28=67:45
  4. In a competitive exam, the number of passed students was four times the number of failed students. If there had been 35 fewer appeared students and 9 more had failed, the ratio of passed and failed students would have been 2 : 1, then the total number of students appeared for the exam ?
    A) 170

    B) 165
    C) 180
    D) 155
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:

    Let the number of failed students be x
    Number of passed students = 4x
    So total number of students was 5x
    From the given data
    If total number of students be 5x – 35
    (5x-35)/x+9=3/1
    x = 31
    Total number = 31×5 = 155
  5. If 8 men and 3 boys working together, can do four times as much work per hour as a man and a boy together. Find the ratio of the work done by a boy and that of a man for a given time ?
    A) 2:3

    B) 3:2
    C) 4:1
    D) 1:4
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:

    8M+3B=4(1M+1B)
    8M+3B=4M+4B
    4M=B
    B:M=4:1
  6. Rs 1440 were distributed among A ,B,C and D in such a way that C and D together gets half of what A and B together gets and C gets one third amount of B. Also D gets 5/3 times as much as C. what is the amount of A?
    A) Rs560
    B) Rs420
    C) Rs460
    D) Rs545
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:

    Given
    C+D= (A+B)/2
    B:C 3:1
    C:D 3:5
    B:C:D 9:3:5
    (A+B)=2(C+D)
    A+9x=2(3x+5x)
    A=7x.
    Total (7+9+3+5) 24 x=1440==>x=60
    Then 7x=7*60==>420
  7. The value of a diamond is directly proportional to the square of its weight. A diamond unfortunately breaks into three pieces with weights in the ratio of 3: 4: 5, thus a loss of Rs. 9.4 lakh is incurred. What is the actual value of diamond:
    A) 15Lakh

    B) 18Lakh
    C) 16.5Lakh
    D) 14.4Lakh
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option D
    Solution:

    The ratio of broken part 3:4:5
    Value of broken parts of diamond =3x2 +4x2+5x2=50x2
    Value of original diamond 12x2=144x2
    Then loss= 144x2-50x2=94x2
    94x2=9.4Lakh
    Actual value= 144x2=144 *9.4/94
    =14.4Lakh
  8. In a Temple every devotee offers fruits to the orphans. Thus every orphan receives Mango, apple and grapes in the ratio of 2 : 5 : 7 in terms of dozen. But the weight of a grape is 35 gm and weight of a mango and an apple are in the ratio of 5 : 6, while the weight of an apple is 180 gm. Find the ratio of all the three fruits in terms of weight, that an orphan gets:
    A) 55:140:32
    B) 60:180:49
    C) 45:122:37
    D) 44:153:48
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:

    Weight of Mango and Apple 5:6
    Apple 6 180gm
    Mango 5 150gm
    Grape 35gm
    Ratio 2:5:7
    Required ratio of fruits by weight
    =2*150 : 5*180 : 7*35
    =60:180:49.
  9. A cat leaps 6 leaps for every 4 leaps of a dog, but 4 leaps of the dog are equal to 5 leaps of the cat. What is the ratio of the speed of the cat to that of the dog?
    A) 4:7
    B) 5:6
    C) 6:5
    D) 7:4
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:

    Dog/Cat = 5/4
    Let cat’s 1 leap = 4 meter and dogs 1 leap = 5 meter.
    Then, ratio of speed of cat and dog = 4*6/5*4 = 24:20==>6:5.
  10. The students in three classes are in the ratio 8 : 9 : 11. If 15 students are increased in each class, the ratio changes to 11 : 12 : 14. Then the total number of students in the three classes before the increase is:
    A) 105
    B) 120
    C) 140
    D) 155
    E) None
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:

    Let the original number of students be 8x, 9x and 11x
    (8x + 15)/(9x + 15)=11/12

    12(8x+15) =11(9x+15)
    96x+180=99x+165
    3x=15
    x = 5
    Required number of students = 8x + 9x + 11x = 28x = 28*5 = 140
